about

Yellow Castro

I made this collection of drones and miniatures whilst travelling in South America. I collected material to process from anything to hand, like shops and buskers or field recordings as I travelled from Buenos Aires to Patagonia and up to Colombia. The tracks have a kind of impromptu feel and the detailed layered loops probably are a result of making these tracks entirely using headphones as I was on the move. I was just processing audio and saving them as snippets thinking that I might use them at a later date. I never really thought of them as individual tracks until I got back to Sheffield, so I decided to share some of them.

The album title ‘Yellow Castro’ refers to a surreal bright yellow church in the city of Castro which I saw whilst doing an artist residency at Musio De Arte Moderno, Chiloe. I like the way the sounds just weave or freely roll about when listening on headphones and I invite the listener to enjoy them this way too. I still love that early glitch sound from the 1990’s / early 2000’s which also played a big part in inspiring this new work.
